I'm so excited to get back outdoors and playing. Game times are at 7, 8, 9, and 10. All games need to start on time so that the later games don't get pushed back any later. Game times will be evenly distributed to teams throughout the regular season. We play 2 25 minutes halves, the second half can go up to 30 minutes at the refs discretion to allow for stoppage time.
I suggest everyone wear cleats. Shin guards are not required but recommended - if you don't wear them you do run the risk of getting kicked in the shins. I also recommend bringing bug spray once the weather starts getting warmer. Glen Cove is near the water so come mid-season the fields tend to get buggy at night.
Divisions: We are at an all time high of 20 teams this season, which means that we have 3 Divisions. Teams were placed in divisions based on a mixture of my discretion, their requests and prior performances. Division 1 & 2 each have 6 teams in their division. They will play every team in regular season (first 5 weeks) Division 3 has 8 teams in their division, they will have a few double headers throughout regular season (Sons of Pitches, Beer Goggles, FC Glen Cove 3, FC Glen Cove 4 all have double headers tomorrow night) so that they can play every team in their division. The last 2 weeks are playoffs for all teams, teams will be matched up in different brackets based on regular season performance for some fun and competitive playoff matches!
Division 1 & 2 will be playing with a minimum of 3 women on the field at all times. Division 3 will have different gender rules so will be playing with a minimum of 2 girls on the field.
THE GAME
- Teams will play 6 v 6 (5 and a goalie)
- Division 1 & 2 - A minimum of 3 girls must be on the field at all times
- Division 3 - A minimum of 2 girls must be on the field at all times
- 25 Minute halves and a 2-3 minute half-time. stoppage time up to 5 minutes may be added at the refs discretion.
RULES
LI-Kick follows FIFA rules with these few exceptions
- No SLIDE TACKLING PERMITTED - most of us have work in the morning, No one needs to get this aggressive on a Monday night.
- There are NO OFFSIDES
- Goal kicks and goalie punts/throws must hit the ground or a player before crossing mid-field. If the goalie saves the ball and puts it down at his feet he becomes a field player and may kick beyond the halfway line.
- Corner kicks and penalty kicks are the only direct kicks
- All other kicks, throws-ins, and kickoffs are indirect.
LI-Kick soccer is a social sports league, while soccer is inherently a competitive sport and we have amazing athletes looking to win it all -- excessive contact, personal attacks, egregious yelling, and general crappy behavior is just not our vibe, no one is getting scouted here. Referees will issue cards and eject players for any of that behavior. Let's keep it fun for everyone!
Player Discipline is as follows:
- 1 yellow card is an in-game warning. 2 yellows in one game results in a red
- 1 red card results in a removal from the game, and the player will be disqualified from the next match.
- 2 yellow cards acquired over the course of the season will result in a red and the player being disqualified the next match.
- 2 red cards acquired in different games will result in an expulsion for the remainder of the season - no refunds will be given
